1.
Chorus: Here's to the banjos ringing and the farms and the fields. Here's to the dark hollers where the sun's seldom revealed. Here's to the mountain man that taught me this song. Here's to the old time dancing May it always live on If a man could make a living in the West Virginia Hills. He's have all that he needs in life and more as I can tell. Hafta be a hard worker and appreciate the woods. Though I was born in the suburbs I think I've understood Softly the wind in the mountains far and wide. They talk of their gardens and the women make the cobbler pies. We tap our water from a good ol mountain spring. Store it in jugs and we make those fiddles ring. In spring time there's white water for those who have no fear, but me I love the forest and the white tailed deer.
2.
The fog was yet lifted above Portland Harbor, my footsteps on Cobblestone Streets. Past early nineteenth century homes, to the waterfront I did creep. There she appeared, an unexpected visitor, a ghost ship from the past. Was I back ion the days of privateering? As I watched her slanted mast. chorus: Escape into the night. Escape into the fog. Back to the brave war with England. The Captain of the ship with his gravely voice, was up from Salem town. There's more than just money in a rig like this, as they'll fight to hold the crown. The salty air, the wind on my shoulder the thought of a slippery deck. The tough nights at sea, the sway of it's breath. The mission a possible wreak. Bridge: As the fog lifted the sleep from my eyes, I turned and walked up the hill. Twas but an old barge hove to from the channel. And I longed for my coffee to ward off the chill. Final chorus: Back to the day. There goes the fog. Back to the brave city of Portland
3.
I want to sing you a song of the tough rugged hills that we hike now and then. The uneven trails, the warmth of a friend. The Hills are alive each season, I hope you agree. The animal tracks in the snow, that's enough evidence for me. Chorus: And you know that peace, I understand. The song of a stream, coming round the bend. The summer is green and the fall is Orange for the hardwoods dominate here. The greenbriers all tangled, an overgrown trail. The moss is like a carpet for us to trodden on. Better pick up the pace, for there goes the sun...
4.
Joshua Tree, where will you be if it doesn't rain? Three Patriarchs, a hike in the park with the steep terrain. Rocky the Squirrel perched up on a hill above the Grand Canyon. Floods in Flagstaff, the steep bumpy road down the mountain. chorus: A trip with my son. This country is wonderful Lake Michigan kites in the wind from the beach. The Iowa corn, the windmills are turning so steep. Wyoming cowboys paint murals on the buildings of their streets. And ol Wyatt Earp he got out of Dodge but he didn't weep. Bridge: The Commanchee Grasslands go on in eastern Colorado. Quite a contrast from the Rockies in the west. The hot parched landscapes of the desert But the quaking aspens were the best
5.
Chorus: Let's listen to a song and learn about a river The mighty river, the Hudson River Let's listen to a song and learn about a river The mighty river, the Hudson River Verse 1. The headwater's start at Lake Tear of the Clouds It flows through the granite of the Adirondack Mountains It picks up speed at the Hudson River Gorge As it makes it's way down past Lake George Verse 2. Then it flows through a place they call Glens Falls In the olden days they would float the logs through there To the mills where they would make the paper To write songs like this and I'll sing about this later Bridge: The upper river is a fast moving stream Filled with trout and evergreens As it flows down south it gets very wide and down at Troy there is a tide! Verse 3. Then it flows past the Capital of New York State There are bridges, barges, buses, people can't be late Through the sleepy little towns to the city of Pokeepsie Riding on a motor boat I'm feeling mighty tipsy (to chorus) Verse 4. Rip Van Winkle fell asleep in the mountains of this valley And he had some fun at the local bowling alley The river flows through the highlands of the Hudson Where they stretched a long chain during the American Revolution (to bridge) Verse 5. It finally flows past the island of Manhattan Where Peter Minuet bought the land foe some wampums It's now called New York City it's a place for you and me And River keeps going till it meets the mighty sea Final chorus Now we listened to a song and we learned about a river the mighty river the Hudson River We listened to a song and learned about a river the mighty river the Hudson River
6.
Born and raised in a cookie cutter village. Industrial town in upstate New York. The greasers were big, so they thought. They rolled up their cigarette packs up their sleeves. Chorus: Back in the streets where I cut my teeth. The days were plentiful and long. So I wrote this song. We went down to the hotdog stand. Played songs on the old juke box. We cut free on those hot and human nights. The skating rink with the bright neon lights. And the Eisenhower glass block windows. Across the way in the old school yard. We played tackle football. We built our dreams on make your own Sundaes and sprinted home on Mondays after school. The woods were cool after the swimming pool and the baseball games that ended with shouting. But the guys had fun in the upstate New York sun. Which left no time for pouting.
7.
Chorus: Two rivers flow gently from two different shores. One from the south, and one from the north. Through twisting and turning and changing their way. Their courses have merged on this very day And stronger it runs through this verdant land. The course is set homeward for the Atlantic Ocean. This sailor and this fair lass with a hand on the wheel, have full sail set for true love and a fair wind on their tail. But with rough seas ahead, this boat will pull through. With the help of the light keeper lighting this crew So we gather here to share in this moment with family and friends as we witness this bride. And when it is through, this one brilliant moment. Their love will be sure as the rise of the tide!
8.
Chorus: In a circle of orange we gather in his name. We talk of God's glory. Yet it always seems the same. They think of their children on the outside of these walls. The frowns on their faces sometimes tells it all. Bridge: He got busted in the city, he got framed by a friend. She left him for another, but the sadness it will end. I'm allowed to leave this circle, return to my home. Love my family and I hold them, in my heart when the day is done. If this circle of men were allowed to be free, they would surely find their children, and my hearty would be set free. But the walls that surround them are built too tall, To allow them to walk through and encourage them to fall. Say a prayer for their family and the boy so far away. He's in need of a Daddy, make the Orange go away.
9.
Chorus: Master Of My Life lives amongst us. We are just the clay being molder everyday. Thank you Jesus for your gift of life. We see you in the beauty of this earth. Suns rays warm us. Proof you care for us. The un-blemished lamb who sacrificed it all Bridge: Faith reveals your love. Your spirit is a gift. Till we meet you face to face, let your spirit live.
10.
I know of a place way up in the mountains. Where the water is clear and is warm as the sun. It's got two mountain streams and the blue sky above us. We sit around the fire and sing our old songs. Chorus: The stars up above. That I learned to love. The mountains so high. Reach out touch the sky. The song is a song. Its meanings are strong. Gonna be so hard saying so long. You can fish, you can swim. You can do almost anything. The people are fine, you're not wasting your time. When the day is over, you're tired and you're hungry. The way life is there makes you want to care.
